Learn about Berres Brothers Decaf Coffees
European Process (EP)
European Process decaf is a solvent-based process in which the caffeine is extracted from the green beans at high pressure near the solvent's boiling point. At the conclusion of the process, the caffeine has been safely removed without affecting the beans or their flavor capacity. Most of Berres Brothers flavored 12oz. coffees use the European Process. Some of our 12oz. World Roast coffees also use the EP process and are marked as such in the drop-down menu of those coffees. See the list below for our EP processed decaf coffees:

Natural Decaf Process (NDP)
Natural Decaf Process (NDP) is a form of decaf in which the green coffee beans are immersed in water, which creates an extract that is passed over activated charcoal to remove the caffeine. The caffeine-free mixture is then reintroduced to the partially dried coffee beans before roasting. Berres Brothers offers three coffees that use this process:
For years, coffee roasters all around the world have used solvents to strip caffeine – and flavor – from coffee.
Natural Decaf Process Coffees from Berres Brothers Coffee Roasters® beans soak in a “bath” of filtered natural mountain water and are then passed through natural filters to remove caffeine.
The difference in processes isn’t just chemistry. Natural Process Decaffeinated Coffees are 99% caffeine Free and abound in the taste you associate with Berres Brothers, Astonishingly smooth flavor®. Berres Brothers offers several coffees that use this Natural Decaf Process for you to choose from.
