The Berres family's tradition of providing quality coffee began in 1970. Marvin Berres founded Coffee Host Inc., a coffee, soda and snack vending business serving companies within a 60 mile radius of Watertown, Wis.
In March 1992, the Berres Brothers Coffee brand was officially launched when Marvin's sons, Peter and Jeff Berres, took over the business and started roasting their own coffee. It was at this time they expanded their product offering and geographic availability as they began to offer roasted and brewed coffee in grocery and convenience stores throughout Wisconsin.
Peter took over complete ownership of Berres Brothers Coffee Inc. in 2000. December of 2002 launched a complete re-branding initiative aimed at strategically repositioning Berres Brothers in the coffee industry. The company is now known as Berres Brothers Coffee Roasters, Inc.
In June of 2005, the company expanded by opening a roasting facility, retail area and café restaurant at its current location on 202 Air Park Drive in Watertown. The new structure offered much needed floor space for production and a one-of-a-kind shopping and dining experience for customers looking to purchase coffee, specialty drinks and food items.
Over a million pounds of coffee were roasted in 2007, a new record for Berres Brothers.
In 2008, master roaster John Johnson earned fourth place in the Specialty Coffee Association of America's (SCAA) fifth annual Roaster's Choice competition. In October, Peter was deployed to Iraq and returned in July of 2009. The company became involved in a program called "Honor Grounds" which supports military veterans and their families by introducing high quality coffee products to retail and food service markets around the country. A percentage was then donated to various military support programs like the American Legion. Filming took place for a feature on the Food Network series "Unwrapped" in October, and the segment aired during the summer and fall of 2009. The company launched its first full-color catalog for the holiday season in conjunction with a re-vamped website format.
